Update: Driver left scene of fatal Newark accident

NEWARK, NJ – Authorities have confirmed that the Saturday night pedestrian accident that left one person dead in Newark was a hit-and-run.

According to Patch.com, the driver did not stop or call for help after hitting a 44-year-old man on 4th Avenue and McCarter Highway just before midnight on Saturday.

Devere Rogers, the victim, was pronounced dead at 12:09 a.m. on Sunday, after being transported to University Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
