BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ – A man is facing charges after hitting a police officer with his vehicle on Tuesday in Bordentown, according to NJ.com.

The police officer was conducting a traffic stop at about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday near the Rising Sun Road truck stop.  He was out of his vehicle when Jason Spencer raced by in a Buick. The officer, Joshua Gardener, had been returning to his vehicle that was parked, lights flashing, behind a stopped tractor-trailer.

The side mirror of Spencer’s car struck the officer on the forearm, and Gardener ran back to his own vehicle to begin pursuit.

The suspect stopped behind a warehouse on Hedding Road.

Gardener was treated for minor injuries, but the accident could have been much worse.

In addition to charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and assaulting a law enforcement officer, Spencer also violated the state’s law that required drivers to move over for flashing lights and emergency vehicles.
