Officer injured in crash during Paramus pursuit, 3 arrested

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Paramus Police Department officer was hospitalized early Thursday after a crash involving a stolen SUV in Paramus, according to Daily Voice.

The injury crash occurred shortly after midnight on Paramus Road, at the jug handle intersection between Bergen Community College and Paramus Catholic High School.

Authorities said officers from Saddle River and Hillsdale were initially chasing suspects in a stolen 2022 Mercedes GLS 450 and a tandem car.

Both suspect vehicles eventually led police south on Route 17 toward Paramus, prompting PPD officers to join in the pursuit. The PPD followed the SUV onto westbound Route 4 and later north on Paramus Road, where the SUV slammed into two PPD cruisers.

One PPD officer was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with a shoulder injury but was released Thursday morning.

Three of the four suspects, all young adults, were later apprehended. They have since been charged with “resisting arrest, receiving stolen property and minor drug possession.”

Officials said the fleeing driver and one passenger, 19 and 22, were taken to Bergen County Jail and are expected to appear in Hackensack’s Central Judicial Processing Court. The other passenger, 22, has since been released pending a hearing.
