BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – According to the Daily Voice, a police officer was hospitalized late Monday after an accident that occurred while he was responding to an out-of-control party.

The officer, Joseph Riccio, was with a detective when Darius Edwards, 24, struck the men with a white Mercedes Benz. Edwards fled the scene in the car but was later apprehended in Brielle.

The officers were called to break up a party of more than 400 people at an Atlantic Drive residence that had gotten out of hand. Reports included public urination, drug use, and noise complaints.

The detective was not injured in the hit-and-run but Riccio was treated in a local hospital for a knee injury.
