Man fatally hit by driver on Tonnelle Ave in North Bergen

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A 64-year-old man died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen, according to Hudson TV.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred near 69th Street at around 5:54 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the male pedestrian was hit by a 2006 Honda Civic heading southbound on Tonnelle Avenue. It was unclear whether the victim was crossing the road at the time.

Officers with the North Bergen Police Department arrived on the scene to find the victim suffering from serious injuries.

The patient was rushed by EMS to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after.

Officials said the driver of the Honda, a 46-year-old man from Bronx, New York, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not reported hurt.

No further details have been shared at this time, but an investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Police Department remains in progress.
