Elderly pedestrian killed in Essex County hit-and-run crash

NUTLEY, NJ (ESSEX COUNTY) – An elderly woman was killed Thursday night when she was struck while crossing the street in a hit-and-run accident in Nutley, according to NJ.com.

The accident happened near the intersection of Rutgers Place and Washington Ave, near an NJ Transit bus stop, at about 7:30 p.m. as 75-year-old Roseann Ratz was out walking with a friend.

She was hit by a vehicle as she was crossing the street and the driver then fled the scene. Ratz was taken to a local hospital, where she died of wounds sustained during the accident.

Her friend, who remains publicly unidentified, was not reported as injured.

Authorities are continuing to search for the hit-and-run driver and are investigating the collision. At this time, they have not made any arrests in connection with the crash.
