The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night between exits 1 and 2. Two passing good Samaritans, a New York Police Department captain and a security guard, managed to get the driver and her 29-year-old passenger out of the overturned vehicle.

The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed while authorities investigated the crash.
