ELIZABETH, NJ – A pedestrian was killed near Route 1 after she was struck by a truck driver in Elizabeth on Thursday night, according to the Union Daily Voice.
The accident occurred near the intersection of North Avenue East and Route 1 at about 8 p.m. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, attempted to cross the street outside of a crosswalk. She was then struck by a truck.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, and there she was pronounced dead.
The truck driver was not reported as injured. The driver remained at the scene after the crash and has cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities believe that the woman’s death was accidental, and do not suspect the driver of having been under the influence.
