FAIRVIEW, NJ — A woman fatally struck by a commuter bus in Fairview Wednesday morning has now been identified, the Cliffside Park-Edgewater Daily Voice reports.
The victim was 57-year-old Teresa Maresca, a supermarket employee from Guttenberg. She was hit by a 166 bus that had departed Manhattan’s Port Authority terminal and was headed to Cresskill. Police say the driver was making a left turn from Anderson Avenue onto Fairview Avenue when the front of the vehicle struck Maresca and knocked her down.
The woman was dragged under one of the rear tires before the driver stopped, according to Fairview Police Chief Martin Kahn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say none of the 38 passengers on board the bus nor the 73-year-old driver were injured.
No summonses were issued in connection with the accident. Maresca worked for the Food Bazaar Supermarket in Fairview.
