Woman, child in stroller hit by driver on NJ-36 near Hazlet

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A woman and her young child were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Route 36 near northwest Hazlet, reports Asbury Park Press.

The incident occurred on the southbound highway between South Laurel Avenue and Palmer Avenue (Main Street) at about noon.

Little information has been released at this time, but investigators said the woman was pushing a stroller with the child inside when the two were hit by a Ford pickup truck.

Both victims suffered undisclosed injuries and were rushed by ambulance to Holmdel’s Bayshore Medical Center. No updates on their conditions have been shared.

Officials said fender damage near the vehicle’s passenger side could be observed, and a wheel appeared to be missing from the baby carriage.

A section of the southbound highway was closed several times during the response, but all lanes were reopened by 3:30 p.m.

An investigation by Hazlet Police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team remains ongoing.
