Woman arrested after police chase ends on I-287 in Mahwah

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – A police chase that ended in Bergen County on Wednesday morning caused an extensive closure on northbound Interstate 287.

According to ABC7NY, the chase started in Ringwood when a driver was found sleeping in her SUV on Skyline Drive by a police officer at about 5:30 a.m. The driver took off from the scene, hitting the officer with her car.

The police made pursuit, following her onto Interstate 287 north. The woman was stopped in Mahwah, when her vehicle began to smoke, not far from the state line.

She was arrested and will likely face charges from the incident. Her identity has not been released.

The injuries that the officer sustained were not serious.

I-287 north was closed between Franklin Lakes and Mahwah until about 9 a.m.
