ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – A 15-year-old driver was arrested after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in Essex County in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to Nj.com, a police officer began pursuing three speeding vehicles in Harding Township at about 1:30 a.m. The first officer abandoned the chase as the vehicle passed into Chatham. An officer in that jurisdiction was waiting for the racers. The crash happened near the intersection of Watchung Avenue and Hillside Avenue. Two vehicles continued away from the scene and the third was found damaged and empty.
The abandoned vehicle had been reported stolen out of New York. The 15-year-old driver was found hiding nearby. The teenager has been charged with possession of stolen property and hindering apprehension.
Police are continuing to look for the other suspects.
