A representative of Local Sheet Local 25 Sheet Metal Workers identified the as 44-year-old Peter J. Millar. Millar was either repairing or replacing the HVAC system on the building’s fifth floor when he fell through a small opening in the ceiling and fell about 30 feet. Responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Millar was the son of Peter Millar, Sr., the owner of Millar Sheet Metal in Kearny. He had 25 years of experience in the field, and was remembered by coworkers as “a good guy” who was engaged to be married.
OSHA has launched an investigation of the fatal accident, although it may be six months before they make an official determination.
