BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man in his 20s was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday evening after being struck by two vehicles on Route 17 in Ramsey, according to Daily Voice.

The incident occurred on the southbound lanes about a half-mile past the Lake Street overpass. It was first reported shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Ramsey Police said the man was wearing dark clothing when he tried to cross the highway on foot and was hit by two vehicles on the southbound highway.

Both drivers and several other witnesses stopped after the event and stayed on the scene until authorities arrived.

The victim was transported by an AirMed One medical helicopter to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson. Officials said he suffered “head trauma and multiple fractures,” but is expected to survive.

At this time, no charges have been filed and no summonses have been issued.

A section of southbound Route 17 was closed for about three hours, forcing traffic to divert onto city streets.
