Update: Driver loses control before driving into Newark Bay

BAYONNE, NJ – More details are coming clear about the incident where a man was rescued after his car went into Newark Bay on Tuesday in Bayonne.

According to the Hudson Report, a 68-year-old driver had pulled into the Steven Gregg Park to answer a call. While attempting to park his vehicle, the driver lost control and ended up driving into Newark Bay at about 5:20 p.m. The man had his foot on both the gas and the brake pedals and drove through the fence into the water.

A bystander, who happened to be a lifeguard, removed his prosthetic leg and jumped into the water.

The driver escaped serious injury.
