ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Patch.com reports that a police chase involving two teenagers that ended in a traffic collision early Sunday morning.
Police began pursuing a Jeep Grand Cherokee at about 2 a.m. after noticing suspicious behavior. As they followed the Jeep, the driver began driving erratically at Bloomfield Avenue and Pine Street. The driver lost control as the vehicle turned onto Fairview Avenue and ran into a traffic light.
The traffic light fell on the hood of the police car, breaking its windshield.
The driver of the Jeep, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested. The second occupant of the Jeep was a 15-year-old girl who fled the scene on foot. She was eventually apprehended.
Both have been taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
Further investigation revealed that the Jeep was stolen. It had been left unlocked with the keys inside.
