WESTFIELD, NJ — Police say they have issued three summonses to a New Jersey driver who fatally struck an elderly pedestrian last week, the Union Daily Voice reported.
87-year-old John Cregg of Scotch Plains was killed Friday afternoon when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 74-year-old James Reid of Parlin, according to police.
The accident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on South Avenue at the intersection with Scotch Plains Avenue in Westfield.
Cregg was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead. Parlin was given the summonses for careless driving, failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and failure to observe a traffic control device, police said.
Authorities are continuing their investigation of the incident.
