CLIFTON, NJ – According to the Daily Voice, a sinkhole opened up on Route 19 yesterday afternoon, forcing a closure that affected traffic in the area.
The hazard caused one lane to close around 4 p.m. as it was large enough that vehicles in the area were having to switch lanes in order to avoid it. By nighttime, the sinkhole expanded to three lanes; and all southbound lanes had to be closed. Traffic was rerouted to Valley Road, Marshall Street, and South Broad Street.
It’s unclear when Route 19 will open again. At this time, we’re not aware of any accidents caused by the sinkhole, but our team will continue to monitor the situation and post an update as we learn more.
