Sea Bright – Two People Injured in Route 36 Crash
A single-car crash that happened early Sunday morning October 27 on Route 36 resulted in injuries and closure of the bridge.
A statement from Sea Bright Police Department’s Detective Daniel Chernavsky said that police received a call at about 2:10 a.m. about a crash that left a car overturned at the base of the Captain Joseph Azzolina Memorial Bridge. According to police investigation, the car was headed from Sea Bright into Highlands when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then left overturned from the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, as well one passenger suffered from minor injuries. They were taken to the nearby Monmouth Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
As a result from the accident, the Route 36 bridge as well as the ramp to Sandy Hook was closed until about 5:40 a.m. Sunday. Police advised motorists to account for delays in their travel while they investigate and remove the car from the scene of the accident.
We are glad no one was seriously hurt in this crash, and we hope for the driver and the passenger’s speedy recovery. Car crashes can be more common during the early morning or late at night. Lower visibility can reduce the driver’s chances of seeing an obstacle on the road and avoid crashing into it. There are also plenty of drivers who may be headed home from work and are fatigued, which can impair their sense of judgement, and may even make them fall asleep behind the wheel of the car. There also also drivers who are headed home from parties, and they may be driving while intoxicated. This makes their decision making skills cloudy, and makes it more likely for them to be in an accident. All of these factors make driving early in the morning or late at night more dangerous. That’s why we urge drivers to be more careful during these times.
