Reward offered to find driver in East Orange hit-and-run

EAST ORANGE, NJ – A reward is being offered to help track down the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in East Orange, according to NJ.com.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stoppers is putting up $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. The victim, 61-year-old Gerald Pettiford of Newark, was struck and killed May 24 on the 400 block of Central Avenue.

Pettiford was pronounced dead at East Orange General Hospital.  A description of the vehicle that hit him is not yet available.

Pettiford, an alumnus of Barringer High School and Upsala College, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
