ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ – A police officer died in a car accident on his way home from work on White Horse Pike near Moss Mill Road on Saturday, according to Dailyvoice.com.
Michael Luko, Sr., 53, was an officer with the New Jersey Human Services Police Department. He was driving a 2003 Honda Civic at about 11:05 p.m. when he was hit by a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado.
He was airlifted to Alanticare Reginal Medical Center and died from his injuries shortly after midnight on Father’s Day.
The driver of the Silverado, Taquaysha Bell, 28, was also transported to the hospital and received a blood test to assess if alcohol was a factor in this accident.
The back-seat passenger of the Silverado, Chanelle Morgan, 28, was taken to the hospital along with two other passengers. Morgan underwent surgery for her injuries. The other two passengers were uninjured.
Luko was a husband and a father of two children.
The accident is still under investigation.
