PARAMUS, NJ – Police have arrested a suspect after a news source circulated a story asking for the public’s help identifying a hit-and-run vehicle.
A 58-year-old woman was struck by a white vehicle near Soldier Hill Road and Forrest Avenue last Thursday at about 6:30 a.m. The driver fled the scene and the female victim died in a local hospital.
Police asked for help from the community in identifying the white Ford hatchback witnesses spotted at the scene of the crash. A man contacted authorities after a damaged vehicle fitting the description was brought in for repairs at an auto body shop.
From that tip, police were able to identify and arrest Michael Mascaro III, a 31-year-old plumber from Emerson. He has been charged with evading apprehension and leaving the scene of an accident.
