CLIFTON, NJ – A pedestrian is dead after a police officer struck her while he was responding to a call in Clifton on Thursday night, according to the Hackensack Daily Voice.
The accident happened near the intersection of Allwood and Brookwood Rds just before 7:15 p.m. as a police officer was responding to a radio call.
The emergency lights on his cruiser were turned on when he collided with a woman who was crossing the street.
Despite the officer’s and EMS personnel’s attempts to resuscitate her, she died at the hospital just before 7:45 p.m.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victim and the officer.
A probe is being conducted into the accident, as is required by law for police-involved incidents.
