MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – The pedestrian killed while attempting to cross Route 1 in South Brunswick on Tuesday has been identified by police.
According to Nj.com, the woman’s car had become disabled before the accident and was in a Wendy’s parking lot close by the scene. The woman had called a tow truck to take the disabled vehicle to a shop across Route 1. The victim was killed while attempting to cross Route 1 near Dean’s Lane at about 7 p.m.
She has been identified as 68-year-old Deborah Smick.
Good Samaritans, including a doctor, stopped to help Smick until EMS arrived. Despite life-saving measures, Smick succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The driver of the involved vehicle, a 63-year-old New York man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He had a green light when the accident occurred.
