NEWARK, NJ – A pedestrian was killed at an intersection in Newark last night after they were struck by a driver who fled the scene of the accident.
According to the Essex Daily Voice, the collision happened outside Newark Beth Israel Hospital, at the intersection of Schuyler Ave and Lyons Ave. At about 7:15 p.m., the driver of a vehicle with Ohio license plates struck the unidentified pedestrian, then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to the nearby hospital, where they succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The vehicle’s side door was nearly ripped off in the collision, according to the report.
The accident remains under investigation by Essex County officials at this time.
