Pedestrian hit and killed by NJ Transit train in Somerset County

BASKING RIDGE, NJ (SOMERSET COUNTY) – A man was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train in Somerset County this afternoon, according to the Daily Voice.

The crash happened in Basking Ridge near the Gladstone Branch at around 7:45 p.m., after Train 732, which had departed from Summit at around 12:14 p.m., collided with a male pedestrian.

The man was pronounced dead after the collision. His identity was not immediately released.

The crew members on the train and the one passenger were not reported as hurt.

The crash resulted in train service being suspended between Bernardsville and Stirling, though a bus service was provided as a replacement.

The crash follows another fatal accident involving a pedestrian and an NJ Transit train which happened two days ago in Morris County.
