Pedestrian fatally hit by NJ Transit train in Westwood

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — One person died Monday morning after being struck by a New Jersey Transit train near the station in downtown Westwood, according to NJ.com.

Authorities responded to the scene near the intersection of Broadway and Jefferson Avenue shortly after the fatal incident, which occurred at 9:47 a.m.

The circumstances behind the event have not been released, but the pedestrian was struck and killed by a Pascack Valley line train.

Investigators said train 1605, which had departed from Hoboken at 8:56 a.m. and was bound for Spring Valley, New York at 10:10 a.m., was carrying 30 passengers at the time of the crash.

By 11:05 a.m., service for the Pascack Valley line between Spring Valley and the New Bridge Landing station in River Edge was temporarily suspended.

No further details have been disclosed at this time, but an investigation by NJ Transit police was underway.
