WOODBRIDGE, NJ – A pedestrian was struck on Route 1 early on Monday morning.
NJ.com reported that the accident happened in the 900 block of Route 1 at about 1:40 a.m. near the intersection with Smith Street. A vehicle traveling north struck the pedestrian in the roadway.
Responders found a 50-year-old man with severe injuries after being hit by several vehicles. The victim, identified as Joseph Cicero, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead soon after.
The driver, a 29-year-old man from the area, had a green light when he struck the pedestrian. He stayed on the scene for authorities to arrive and cooperated with the police. He is not expected to be charged.
All lanes in both directions of Route 1 were closed following the incident.
