ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A 26-year-old woman has died after a hit-and-run pedestrian crash Saturday morning in Irvington Township that severely hurt another woman, reports local media.

Irvington Township Police and first responders were called to the scene at Springfield Avenue and Clinton Avenue on December 3, shortly before 2:05 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates two women were crossing the road on foot when they were both hit by a driver in a light-colored Mercedes Benz. Officials said the driver fled the scene without stopping. The vehicle is believed to have sustained front-end damage consistent with the crash.

Authorities arrived to find the 26-year-old woman suffering from a major head injury, and a second severely injured woman lying on the ground. Both victims were rushed to Newark’s University Hospital, where the first victim, an East Orange resident and mother of two, was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, December 7.

An investigation by Irvington Township Police and the Irvington Police Detective Division was underway.
