JERSEY CITY, NJ – A pedestrian died early this morning after he was hit by a car in front of his Jersey City home.
The Hudson County View reports that the victim, 26-year-old Shawn Charles of Jersey City, was standing outside of his home on Summit Avenue and Hopkins Avenue just before 4 a.m. when the accident occurred. An unidentified vehicle was backing up when it struck Charles, critically injuring him.
He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead just before 4:30 a.m.
According to the report, the unnamed driver left after striking Charles but later returned to the scene of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
