WARREN COUNTY, NJ – A Route 80 police pursuit ended in a rollover crash that seriously injured one person in Warren County last Thursday afternoon.
According to Daily Voice, police attempted to stop a stolen Mercury sedan on eastbound Route 80 in Hope Township at about 2:30 p.m. The driver, 18-year-old Brian Thomas, sped away from Troopers in the stolen vehicle and began to exit the freeway toward County Road 521 at Exit 12. He crashed on the onramp and overturned the car.
Thomas, and one of his passengers, 19-year-old Jaheem Futrell, fled the scene on foot. They left 21-year-old Dereck Charpentier at the scene, suffering from serious injuries. Charpentier was taken to a local hospital.
State Troopers enlisted local K-9 units and their aviation unit to local the suspects near Foundry Road.
Thomas is facing charges that include receiving stolen property, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily harm, and being an unlicensed driver inflicting serious bodily injury.
Futrell was charged with resisting arrest by flight, possession of marijuana, and other offenses.
Charpentier was charged with receiving stolen property.
