Ocean Township – Crash in Garden State Parkway Leaves One Hurt
Police are still investigating the crash that happened last Sunday, October 27 on the Garden State Parkway in the Waretown area.
According to a statement released by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway at around 2:16 p.m. when the crash occurred. A witness at the scene said the vehicle suddenly swerved and then hit a guardrail. The accident, which took place less than a mile south of exit 69 to Forked River caused some lanes in the Garden State Parkway to be closed for a couple of hours.
Police who responded examined the driver who was unconscious at the time, and determined the driver suffered minor injuries. The driver was taken to an area hospital for further examination and treatment.
Ocean County Police Department are still investigating the circumstances around the accident and the cause has yet to be determined.

A report compiled by the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit said that in 2017, New Jersey recorded 591 fatal collisions that resulted in 624 deaths. Of the fatalities, 339 were drivers, 85 were passengers, 183 were pedestrians and 17 were bicyclists. Of this total, 524 were tested for alcohol and 100 were not tested. Of the 524 tested, 155 were positive for alcohol in varying degrees and 369 were negative. This indicates that 29.6% of the fatalities tested were positive for alcohol. The report then continues that in 158 of the 591 crashes that occurred, Driving While Intoxicated was listed as the major contributing factor to the accident. 174 people were killed as a result of these 158 crashes.
