A man from Fairview has been charged for an accident that happened last Monday, October 21st in North Bergen that left a car overturned and a driver with injuries.
North Bergen Police investigating the accident say that a 70 year-old man from Bergenfield was driving northbound on Bergenwood Avenue with a 26 year-old passenger at around 6:45 p.m. when they were hit by another vehicle. The vehicle, driven by an 18 year-old man from Fairview, was traveling east on 91st Street and went through a stop sign, causing it to drive into the other vehicle. The accident caused the struck vehicle to overturn, police added.
The driver and the passenger inside the overturned vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to EMS who responded at the scene. They were then taken to Palisades Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The 18 year-old man from Fairview initially fled the scene of the accident. He later approached the North Bergen Police force and informed them of the accident. He was then charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, North Bergen Police said.
We send our sympathies to the victims of the accident and hope for their speedy recovery. New Jersey law dictates that when you arrive at a stop sign, you are required to come to a complete stop within five feet of the nearest crosswalk or stop sign. Once you’ve stopped, you must yield the right of way to all traffic at that intersecting street. You may legally continue driving after doing both of those actions. We urge drivers to observe and follow stop signs to avoid accidents like these. Victims of a driver that did not follow the stop sign may seek compensation for any injury they may have sustained in the accident.
