UNION COUNTY, NJ – A 43-year-old man has been jailed for his role in a fatal car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Clark early on Monday morning.
According to Daily Voice, Ronaldo Godwin, of Newark, was southbound at high speeds in a Range Rover on the Garden State Parkway at about 2:45 a.m., when he crashed into a Lexus SUV. The Range Rover overturned and the Lexus caught fire.
Seeing the crash scene, a passerby stopped to assist. Godwin then offered the passerby a monetary reward to help him flee from the scene.
Christopher Meikle, 46, was rushed to the hospital after being rescued from his flaming car. He was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway at about 3:35 a.m.
Godwin was also treated at an area hospital before he was taken to the Union County Jail. He is being charged for second-degree death by auto as well as witness tampering.
