HOPEWELL, NJ – A woman was taken into police custody after she allegedly stole a patrol vehicle, leading police on a chase that ended in a collision in Hopewell yesterday afternoon, according to NJ.com.
The incident began in Trenton at about 5:40 p.m., when 30-year-old Morris Plains woman Cherrelle Cooper allegedly took a Trenton Police cruiser that was idling on E State Street. This began a police pursuit down Route 29, until she collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Bear Tavern Road and Washington Crossing Road.
Cooper was taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-critical injuries and is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident.
The alleged theft and crash remain under investigation.
