The blaze began at 25 Hedden Terrace at about 9 p.m., when a two-and-a-half-story home caught fire, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
A man inside the wooden structure, near the door, died as a result of the accident. A second male victim was rescued from the flames without serious injury.
A firefighter sustained minor injuries while responding to the emergency.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available.
Authorities continue to investigate the blaze.
