HOBOKEN NJ – A man was charged with drunk driving and drug possession after a police officer witnessed him driving erratically and then crash on Sunday morning.
At about 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sgt. Anthony Russo saw the man identified as 26-year-old Sheldon Looby of Jersey City speeding down northbound down River Street.
The Hudson County View reported that as the driver approached where River Street intersects at a “T” with 4th Street, he jumped the curb and drove through the fence in the Stevens Park. He came to a stop in the middle of the park where Russo approached him.
After backup arrived, Russo assessed that Looby appeared to be inebriated. Looby failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. Upon searching his vehicle, officers also found a bag of what appeared to be marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.
Looby is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to produce documentation, among other charges.
