PATERSON, NJ – A man has been charged following an early morning crash that killed an 18-year-old one passenger and injured others in Paterson over the weekend.
According to Daily Voice, 23-year-old Lawan A. Henry was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed a 2008 Cadillac CTS. The accident happened on Broadway near East 30th Street before 4 a.m.
Henry was driving three passengers when the crash happened. 18-year-old Xavier Ortiz died at the scene. The two other passengers are still in the hospital and receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Henry ran from the scene but was apprehended within hours. He was charged on Monday with first-degree DWI death by auto, causing death and serious injury while unlicensed, and DWI assault with auto.
