BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – A man has been charged with assault by auto after hitting two women in a Paramus shopping center parking lot earlier in the month.
According to a local news report, Gary Mongelli ran his car into a 65-year-old woman as he attempted to back out of a parking spot at the ShopRite at 224 Route 4 on October 17. He put his car in drive, pulled forward, then backed into a 33-year-old woman.
Both victims were treated at a local hospital for serious injuries. The older woman was released just a few days after the accident, but the younger woman remained in the hospital for days longer. She was in stable condition.
Mongelli was not injured in the accident. His car was initially impounded at the scene of the crash but he was charged immediately.
