BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – A newly 21-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving after injuring a teenager in Elmwood Park early on Monday morning.
According to Daily Voice, the 18-year-old victim was standing near a disabled vehicle close to the intersection of River Drive and Marginal Road at about 2:10 a.m. The teenager had been helping another motorist with car trouble when the accident occurred.
Omar Firozvi, who had turned 21 one just hours before the accident, fled the scene but was apprehended quickly by authorities and charged with reckless driving, assault by auto, and leaving the scene.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. He was put on life support in critical condition.
No one else was injured. The driver the young man was helping acted as a witness and helped authorities catch the suspect.
The accident is still under investigation.
