A man from Little Egg Harbor was arrested after a hit-and-run in Long Beach that left one bicyclist with serious injuries.
According to reports from police, 41 year-old John Madden was driving his 2020 Jeep Liberty on Long Beach Boulevard when he struck 63 year-old Daniel Bogacz who was on his bicycle. Madden then made a U-turn and accelerated past the victim, who sustained serious injuries from the crash.
Bogacz was air-lifted to Atlantic City Medical Center where he is presently listed in critical condition.
Madden was discovered to have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time he struck the victim, and was arrested and charged with assault by auto, knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.

Vehicular crashes are one of the most common causes of injuries and fatalities in the state of New Jersey. In a report published by the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accidents Investigation Unit, there were 591 recorded fatal crashes that occurred in 2017, which caused 624 fatalities.

We urge drivers to observe and follow the laws while driving, and to remain focused while driving so that they can react accordingly to situations that may suddenly pop up on the roadway. Drivers should be more careful when driving while visibility is low, and they should also check their car before going on the roadway. Being more diligent and prepared can help lessen accidents on the roads of New Jersey.
