BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 22-year-old woman escaped a vehicle fire Tuesday evening after a crash involving a utility pole near Stone Point Park in Old Tappan, reports Daily Voice.

The incident occurred at 1052 Westwood Avenue, in an area between the park and Washington Avenue South.

It was unclear what events led up to the crash, but Old Tappan Police said a Jeep Patriot struck a utility pole, causing wires to fall onto the ground. A leaf pile under the Jeep had become ignited, which then caused the vehicle to catch fire and soon become engulfed in flames.

The female driver was able to exit the wreck vehicle without injuries.

Responding firefighters worked to extinguish the flames after ensuring the power was cut. Borough police and River Vale fire crews also assisted at the scene.

No further details have been shared, but an investigation by Old Tappan Police was in progress.
