UNION, NJ – According to Patch.com, a fiery crash on Interstate 78 in Union Wednesday morning claimed the life of one driver and injured a passenger.
The accident occurred at 3 a.m, when a BMW 328 rear-ended a tractor-trailer in the eastbound local lanes. The crash caused the vehicles to go up in flames near milepost 52.
Kabeem Buckham, 29, of Maplewood, was driving the BMW at the time of the crash. He died in the accident.
A passenger in his vehicle, Tamu Waluye, 28, was transported to University Hospital with minor injuries.
The tractor-trailer’s driver was not injured in the accident.
I-78 was closed for about four hours while officers cleared and investigated the scene. Investigators are still looking into the what caused the accident.
