Hightstown Man Dead in NJ Turnpike Truck Accident

CARNEYS POINT TOWNSHIP, NJ – A man died Friday night in an accident involving a box truck on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to NJ.com.

The accident happened on the southbound New Jersey Turnpike at about 10:35 p.m.

The victim, 22-year-old Hightstown man Garret Christino, was driving a Nissan Altima when the car blew a tire. The vehicle stalled in the left lane of traffic, perpendicular to the flow of cars. A box truck traveling in the left lane then collided with the Altima, killing Christino.

The driver of the truck and their passenger both received minor injuries in the collision.

Authorities closed multiple lanes of traffic for about four hours for the investigation and cleanup of the collision.

No charges have been issued yet.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
