HOPATCONG, NJ – According to NorthJersey.com, a man was working to remove weeds with a harvester when the vehicle overturned in the water in Crescent Cove area of Lake Hopatcong last Wednesday.
Curt Mulch, 68, was using the machine to trim the aquatic plants in the shallow waters of the lake when he was reportedly trapped underneath the capsized vehicle about 10:30 a.m. New Jersey police officers who arrived first on the scene dove into the water as an effort to save Mulch but were unsuccessful.
Divers spent hours searching in the water for Mulch. They were able to recover the body a little before 3:30 p.m.
Mulch, who had worked for Lake Hopatcong for over a decade and was experienced working with the harvesters, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
