A driver and a juvenile passenger were heavily injured after a crash on Corkhill Road causes their vehicle to roll down an embankment Sunday night, October 27.
Preliminary investigation done by Franklin Police revealed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Corkhill Road at around 7:10 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The driver tried to regain control of the vehicle as the vehicle crossed over the center line of the roadway, police added.
The vehicle then went off the roadway completely, going down a steep downward grade near the Ogdensburg border. The car then struck a traffic sign and an embankment, overturning before striking a concrete wall. The vehicle continued to overturn, going over heavy brush, then finally hitting a block retaining wall and vinyl fence surrounding some pool equipment from a nearby residence.
The juvenile passenger was ejected from the vehicle while the vehicle was overturning, while the driver remained in the vehicle. Both the driver and the juvenile passenger sustained critical injuries from the crash. They were transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We would like to send our sincerest sympathies to the victims of the crash. We know how difficult it is to deal with heavy injuries from a car accident, and we hope for their speedy recovery. Car accidents are more prevalent during the colder seasons, as road conditions may not be the best due to weather conditions. Lowe visibility also contributes to accidents, giving drivers less time to react to obstacles that may suddenly appear on the roadway. We urge drivers to be more vigilant when driving during the colder seasons, and to also be prepared before going on the roadway. Being prepared can help drivers stay on top of situations which may put them in a crash otherwise.
