JERSEY CITY, NJ – An 80-year-old man was killed in a small fire that broke out at an apartment building for senior citizens in Jersey City last night, according to CBS New York.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on the second floor of the apartment building on Danforth Avenue, in a unit that investigators said had some “hoarding conditions.” This made it difficult for emergency crews to search the apartment, according to the report.
The victim was found with severe injuries on a mattress in one of the rooms of the apartment. The victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
No other injuries were reported in the blaze, which took authorities a little under an hour to get under control.
Authorities from Hudson County and Jersey City are continuing to investigate the fire at this time.
