GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ – The passenger in a dump truck was killed in a crash with a car and a tractor-trailer on I-295 in West Deptford on Tuesday afternoon.
According to NJ.com, the dump truck was struck from behind in the right land of southbound I-295 at about 3 p.m. The dump truck was pushed into the left lane by the impact and hit a Ford Fusion before both vehicles struck the guardrail. Finally, the dump truck overturned.
The 75-year-old passenger died at the scene. He was identified as Gary Shute of Pedricktown. The driver of the dump truck was taken by helicopter ambulance from the scene for treatment of serious injuries. The Ford’s driver sustained moderate injuries. The tractor-trailer was uninjured.
The roadway was reopened after a seven-hour closure.
The accident is still under investigation. At this time, no one has been charged.
