WALDWICK, NJ – A driver slammed into the outside eating area of a local restaurant on Friday after losing consciousness while driving.

A 57-year-old woman was driving her SUV away from the Rite Aid where she had taken a COVID-19 test on Franklin Turnpike. She hit the curb before her vehicle crossed the street and went through a shopping center. Nellie’s Place was closed for Tropical Storm Fey when her SUV careered through its parking lot.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When the restaurant reopened, concrete barriers had been placed to protect diners from another such incident.
