Driver dies after car rear-ends big rig near NJTP in Edison

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 39-year-old Florence man died Monday afternoon after a crash involving a tractor-trailer near the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison, reports Daily Voice.

The fatal accident occurred at Interchange 10, before the Edison Toll Plaza heading onto the turnpike. It was first reported shortly after 12:45 p.m.

According to New Jersey State Police, the man was driving a Ford Fiesta toward the toll plaza to enter the turnpike when the Ford hit the back of a tractor-trailer.

Authorities said the driver of the Ford suffered fatal injuries in the crash. It was unclear whether he was pronounced deceased at the scene or at a hospital.

The driver of the big rig was not reported hurt.

At this time, the cause of the wreck has not been shared. An investigation remains ongoing.
